MINI to use Brexit as bargain chip over MINI-E production

Reports are coming out of Berlin that MINI is considering moving the production of its future MINI-E model away from Oxford if Brexit talks with the UK Government don't go well.

The firm is concerned that a hard Brexit will put up trade barriers between the UK and Europe, impacting on profitability.

Production for the model could be moved to Regensburg or Leipzig in Germany, or Dutch contract manufacturer Nedcar.

A MINI spokesperson said: "Mini has announced that it will launch an EV in 2019. The production arrangements for this model have not yet been decided and will be in due course."

As we have seen in recent months other motor manufacturers have been seeking reassurances from the Government over its Brexit plans, and with Nissan already given support it seems the rest of the industry are looking to get some sort of favourable deal too.
