BMW Group Classic presents the highlights of its collection in Berlin

Classic fans are currently looking to Berlin. The historic exhibition halls of the capital will be the venue for the second edition of Motorworld Classics Berlin from 6 to 9 October 2016. For the first time, the BMW Group Classic will be presenting its range of services to the public at the Oldtimer Fair as well as selected highlights from the history of the automobile and motorcycle. To start the tour on the premises between Funkturm and Avus, all brands of the BMW Group are represented with particularly remarkable rarities. The compilation of the exhibits presented on the Boulevard of Hall 20 near the entrance to Nord comprises the reconstruction of a successful model, a work of art on wheels, a historical concept study and the once fastest production motorcycle in Germany.

In the year of its 50th birthday, the BMW 02 series will also be honored at the Motorworld Classics Berlin. The two-door model, first presented in 1966, developed into the most sold model in the history of the company in numerous engine and body variants, and is still regarded worldwide as the quintessential joy of driving. The vehicle exhibited in the exhibition center is a BMW 2002 tii, completely rebuilt in 2005 in the "Glass workshop" of the BMW Group Classic with numerous original spare parts. This model variant was launched in 1971 and was powered by a 130 hp injection engine.

With a spectacular piece, the inspiring effect of the classic Mini and the musician David Bowie, who died earlier this year, will be remembered in Berlin. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the revolutionary British small car, several copies of the classic Mini were designed by renowned artists in 1999. They also included Bowie, who left the vehicle completely chrome-plated, with the exception of the tires, headlights and taillights. The result is a splendor in which the entire world can be reflected and which can now be admired in the city where Bowie lived between 1976 and 1978.

The Rolls-Royce brand is also represented on the Motorworld Classics with a historic unique design. A design study will be presented, which was produced in 1926 by the traditional car bodywork manufacturer Barker. The Rolls-Royce Phantom I 10EX is the first concept car in the world and impresses above all with its streamlined tail. The open sports tourer, whose model designation contains the combination of letters EX for "Experimental", was used for several years as a test vehicle. The focus was on innovations with which the brand's well-known models for quality, reliability and luxury could also achieve top results in the discipline of speed.

The fascination of speed was also the result of the development of the fourth vehicle shown by the BMW Group Classic in Berlin. The BMW R 68 was designed with 1951 racing expertise. Derived from the sister model BMW R 67 and powered by a 35 hp box engine, it was the fastest standard motorcycle in Germany. Thanks to a top speed of more than 160 km / h, the BMW R 68 was celebrated as a "100-mile race" during its presentation. The new high-performance motorcycle was not only a particularly fast but also an exclusive sports equipment and is therefore one of the most sought-after collector's items on two wheels today among classic car fans.
