Brooklands Museum have provided showings & Wheels with memorable motoring demonstrations since its inception in 2005, and this year is set to be its best yet. With an incredible history of speed, Brooklands Museum know how to put on a performance.
Embodying the “Spirit of Brooklands”, visitors are given the opportunity to see Supercars, Classic cars and Vintage icons tear up the track. Previous examples of these exquisite machines include Porsche 911, Dodge Monaco, TVR Tasmin 280i, Ducati Mutistrada 1200s, Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, Ford GT40 and Lotus Elise 49.
Brooklands Museum will also have a stand in the arena to give visitors a taste of what they can see and learn about at the Museum in Weybridge. As well as cars and planes, it is also home to Brooklands Motor Track, the world’s first purpose built motor-circuit. It was also home to the ‘Speed Queens’, a collective group of pioneering women who made aviation and motoring history during the 1920s and 1930s. Names such as Hilda Hewlett, the first British woman to gain a pilot’s licence, and Kay Petre, a 4’10’’ Canadian-born racer who became the first woman to lap the track at over 130mph.
The circuit is still rich with important cultural history. In the late 1920s, a society girl named Alexander McCorquodale campaigned for improved facilities at the track. This culminated in the Ladies’ Reading Room, which opened in 1930. This was a room specifically reserved for ladies to rest in during their time at the circuit. It was decorated in a beautiful art deco style popular at the time. The room can still be seen today at the museum, inside the Clubhouse. It is a fitting tribute to all the female pilots and drivers that triumphed at Brooklands.
Visitors to Wings & Wheels can also enjoy the full complement from the RAF as they display with the Red Arrows, Eurofighter and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire, Hurricane, Dakota) as well as the Royal Navy Black Cats, Blades, and B-25 Mitchell bomber. Supercars, classics and race cars put on an awe inspiring display of power and speed on the Top Gear track in a two-hour auto spectacular from Brooklands Museum. Over in our Wheels Zone is an array of interactive and static displays as well as two and four wheeled shows in the Stunt Zone with Steve ‘Showtime’ Colley and Mission Motorsport and a new Monster Truck arena offering demonstrations and passenger rides.
The show also includes over 25 fixed-price catering outlets, 2 bars, hospitality facilities, free on-site parking, public camping, lost children point, disabled access, informative show commentary, opportunities to meet the pilots, official show merchandise and grandstand seating.
The 12th annual Wings & Wheels will be held over the August Bank holiday weekend; Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th August 2016, at Dunsfold Park near Guildford, Surrey, and is open to spectators from 09:00 until 21:00.
Advanced rate tickets from £22 for adults or £50 for a family. Single child tickets (for children aged 5 – 15) will be £7. Children under 5 go free.
