EVENT REPORT: Pendle Powerfest

East Lancashire's biggest gathering of machinery at the Pendle Powerfest this year was Mini themed - celebrating the Italian Job with a selection of replica vehicles from the film. At the centre of the display (after the three Mini Cooper Ss of course) was the getaway bus - lovingly transformed into a party bus from www.millenniumlimos.co.uk, surrounded by more iconic vehicles including a Lamborghini Muira, E-type Jags, the Ford Thames fan van and a Land Rover.

The charity event was this year raising money and awareness for various good causes including The Encephalitis Society - chosen this year after one of the founders of the show was diagnosed with the condition last year.

Alongside the numerous Minis of old and new, and large turnouts from the northern Mini clubs, there were other film replica cars including the Interceptor from Mad Max and KITT from Knight Rider.

But this show wasn't just about film cars, this was a celebration of any kind of powered machinery, from radio-controlled cars and drones, to enormous powerful tractors and supercars.

Local MINI dealership Lloyd MINI of Colne brought along a handful of cars including a MINI GP II and a JCW Convertible which was particular attractive given the stunning weather that blessed the show.

A handful of big American muscle cars were on show, alongside rally cars, stock cars and speedway bikes.

Inside the hall a group of R/C car enthusiasts had come together for only the second time to put on a display with three Minis chasing a replica bus around the Turin scenery and loading up in the back of the bus.

Taking time to look closely at the models afterwards, you can see the time and detail that has gone into creating these replicas. The owner told me the first bus he made was too small to fit all three Minis in, so he had to make a bigger one! No mean feat, but excellently done.

Alongside the R/C Minis were train sets running through various landscapes and someone displaying their mini drones from with a 720p camera and smart controls - and from just £50... they really are becoming really affordable.

Back at the party bus we were amazed at the detail and snazziness of it, with half classic Mini bodyshells on the walls and Union flags adorning the seats with lights glowing and glittering everywhere else - it really does set the scene for a night on the town!

With such variety of vehicles, displays and other machinery, it was a very entertaining day, there was even live music and a raffle. For just £3, it was well worth the entry and a show for enthusiasts of any kind of machinery... it's a real eye-opener!
