MkII Cooper S Margrave up for auction

Mini fanatics, serious Mini fanatics are going to be dusting off their chequebooks after a very rare MkII Cooper S has been put up for auction with Historics at Brooklands.

It's not just a standard MkII Cooper S though, it's a Margrave. These ultra-rare Minis were converted by coachworks and Mini specialist Wood & Pickett to make it more luxurious.

Further details:
This Wood and Pickett Margrave Cooper S differs from the usual Wood and Pickett conversions in that it does not carry the usual quad headlamps at the front or the rather ugly American style fake soft top to the rear; instead, this Wood and Pickett Mini is much more subtle and looks more attractive for it. Look closely and you will spot the delicate swage line running across the top of the front wings finishing with peaked chromed headlamp rims, borrowed from a Riley 1.5. Elsewhere the detail continues with Aston Martin DB6 leather seats, Piper electric windows, Aston Martin electric window switches, Rolls Royce chrome handles, Lucas 608 interior mirror, replacement dark blue leather-trimmed carpets, a Paddy Hopkirk throttle pedal, a leather hand brake gaiter, Britax seat belts, MGB rev counter and odometer, Jaguar auxiliary instruments, Moto-Lita wood rim steering wheel and a Rolls Royce cigarette lighter. The specification continues to impress with the original 1969 MkII Cooper S bodyshell as modified by Wood & Picket fitted  with twin 5-gallon fuel tanks, a Benelite grille, twin Lucas LR9 spotlights, a modified Mk3 boot lid, Princess 1100 door handles and a Webasto full length sunroof.  Major works have recently been carried out by the well respected Mini specialists, Mini Speed of Byfleet Surrey. These works included the rebuild of the 1275cc engine, gearbox and carburettors. A photo record of the engine build resides within the history file. One feature of the car that is pure 60's and 70's is the 8 Track cassette player, which is still fitted and in working order, allowing you to play the, mainly period, tapes that come with this Cooper S.

The Pacific blue coachwork is finished to a high standard and complimented by a set of Mini-Lite alloy wheels shod with Dunlop 165/70/10 SP Aqua Jet radial tyres. This Wood and Pickett Margrave Mini Cooper S is offered complete with a jack, tools, Hydrolastic suspension pump, an MoT test certificate, valid until October 2014 and 'Historic' road fund licence valid to the end of September 2014. A copy of the Mini World magazine article details the car when in John Hammel's ownership and resides within the history file.
Winner of the London to Brighton Mini Run 'Car of the Show' 2009, this special Mini, is today in exceptional condition and represents an opportunity for the true enthusiast and dedicated collector alike, especially given that it is also offered at 'no reserve'.
