Beautiful MkI Mini up for auction with Historics at Brooklands

Historics at Brooklands have got a beautiful MkI Mini up for sale in its next auction on November 26.


Here's what the listing says:
"Designed by Alex Issigonis in 1959, a new concept in car design was born.  With a monocoque shell, transversely mounted engine and front wheel drive, the new 'Mini', as it was commonly known, soon became popular across a broad spectrum of the population.  Introduced in February 1964, the 1275 Mini Cooper S, with its torquey engine, has long been seen as the ultimate 'S' and is currently still the most sought after version for most buyers and owners. Visually the same as the 1071cc 'S', the 1275cc was fitted with hydrolastic suspension along with the rest of the Mini range in late 1964. From early 1966, the extra fuel tank and oil cooler became standard items. The 1275cc 'S' then remained in production pretty much unchanged until September 1967 when the Mk. II version was launched.

Originally delivered to Carey & Lambert, Southampton, this Mk. I version came from the factory with the welcome addition of a fresh air heater, twin fuel tanks, 4½" wheel rims and an oil cooler. It was acquired by the vendor in 2014 from a provincial auction house in Dorset in a lamentable condition but with just two former keepers. Over the next two years, a full nut & bolt restoration took place with no quarter overlooked.  The shell was stripped and re-painted in the original Old English White by classic specialists, Paint Dynamix who also took care of the, now red, interior. Any new parts or panels were sourced from specialist suppliers. 

It now represents a stunning example of this now extremely rare Cooper S; many have been raced and rallied but this is as near to original as possible. The only nod to modern driving is the addition of Minilite alloy wheels, although the originals are available if required. Forming part of a respected private collection, it has covered just 50 miles since its restoration and comes fully serviced and complete with a full MoT test certificate, large history file and British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate.

 








 
Correct Cooper S's are increasingly hard to find these days and one in standard specification in this condition is a rare find indeed. As collectable as their period Ferrari cousins, the Cooper S is a 'must have' in any serious collection."
