Vintage and classic rally
organiser Rally Round is accelerating into the future with another
pioneering driving adventure - the first competitive UK-organised rally
ever to visit Japan.
THE
SAMURAI CHALLENGE will run from 12 April to 5 May 2017, following the
spring flowering of the cherry blossom, as crews compete on a
fascinating route of 3,272km (2,033miles), from Fukuoka in the south to
Lake Toya in the north.
Following the pattern established on our highly-acclaimed events in
Burma (2014) and Bhutan (2015), the Samurai Challenge regularity
competition will run to a relaxed schedule - the average daily distance
is just 192km (119 miles). As well as driving some of Japan's most
amazing roads, participants will enjoy luxury hotels and fine dining,
with plenty of time to socialise and to experience some of the country's
greatest natural, man-made and cultural treasures, from primeval
landscapes and brooding volcanoes to the brilliant, neon-lit metropolis
of Toyko and the island home of the internationally renowned Kodo
Drummers.
Suitable
for crews of any experience level, including novices, the Samurai
Challenge is open to all veteran, vintage and classic cars of a type in
production before 1974; there will also be a non-competitive Touring
Category, open to any car.
Navigation will be by
straightforward Tulip road book, with distances given in kilometres and
miles, and there will be no car-breaking sections or night driving. Run
by the highly-experienced Rally Round team, who between them have
organised more than 50 events worldwide, the rally will of course be
accompanied by fully-qualified medical and mechanical support.
A summary of the exciting Samurai Challenge itinerary may be found in
the event brochure, available online from the dedicated event page at www.rallyround.co.uk, along with regulations and a useful Q&A. Complimentary hard copies of the brochure are available on request.
Plans are also well advanced
for the two exciting events taking place this year. The period-dressed
PARIS-VIENNA RALLY (13-18 June 2016) is almost full, with crews from 11
nations and a wonderful variety of cars dating from 1905 to 1969,
including no fewer than eight vintage Bentleys. The latest entry list
may be viewed on the Paris-Vienna event page at www.rallyround.co.uk.
They will be joined by another lucky crew at the London Classic Car
Show at ExCeL this weekend (18-21 February), as our competition to win a
free Paris-Vienna entry worth £5,500 concludes with a prize draw.
Visitors to the show may still enter the competition until 11am on
Sunday, when the draw takes place on the Rally Round stand, C110.
Rally Round is also delighted to announce that Peter Rushforth has been
appointed Clerk of the Course for the thrilling HAKA CLASSIC RALLY in
New Zealand (30 October to 25 November 2016).

competition history dating back to 1961 (including 14 WRC events) and
long experience as a rally official, Peter has been Clerk of the Course
or Deputy CoC on more than 50 events over the past 45 years, among them
