The Historic Rally Car Register (HRCR) are please to announce a new
challenge series for 2016, designed to put the fun into historic stage
rallying in the UK.
Seven rallies with eight scoring rounds have been
carefully selected to offer value for money, great organisation and
classic stages on a mixture of surfaces.
The closed to
club Stage Masters Challenge 2016 will offer an overall Challenge
winner, best performances on asphalt and gravel, plus class awards.
The
best five scoring rounds will count, with more points available for the
highlight of the calendar - the Killarney Stages Rally - which will
allow crews to tackle the infamous Molls Gap, a must on most drivers
bucket list.
The Isle of Man Classic Rally will count as
two rounds, to encourage more crews to experience the closed public
roads on the island.
HRCR Chairman Paul Loveridge said: "We wanted to offer an alternative to crews who have supported the club through the years.
"Rallying
is going through some tough times and we felt something had to be done
to offer our 2,000 members and organisers a fun series, where the
challenge is competing among themselves in their own classes and
categories.
"Also, we delighted that we have managed to secure some iconic rallies with roots firmly in historic rallying."
The
challenge starts with the Mid-Wales stages in March, with its
high-quality organisation, stages and high-profile ceremonial start and
finish.
Apart from the overseas rounds, most of Challenge rounds centre around the Brecon and Llandovery areas.
Stuart
Clarke's former class-winning navigator Andy Ballantyne has retired
from competitive navigating to help run the challenge; he said: "We know
that spectators and organisers want to see and hear the variety of cars
that we know are out there.
"We've considered rounds that can offer great spectating
opportunities and can accommodate entries with a good mix of facilities
and accessibility."
The Challenge will be launched at the HRCR open day at Gaydon on 16 January.
