The 60th Jubilee Cambrian Rally attracted a really high quality entry of over 170 cars to Llandudno on Saturday 16th October for nine stages, four in the Crafnant and Penmachno forests run twice and a final stage around the Great Orme.
Six crews made the journey for the final round of the 2016 Old Stager Championship, in category two love:mini sponsored Clive King and Anton Bird were in their usual Cooper S hoping for a good finish to try and take the category title from Andrew O’Hanlon.
This was however soon to be prove difficult with the first two stages being rough for the 10 inch wheels of the little Mini. Stage three was smoother but a front puncture proved to be the less of the drama as the jack would not work and Clive lost seven and half minutes trying to change the wheel in the stage. Worst was still to come however as the Mini pulled out on to the road section after the stage - the driveshaft pulled out of the CV joint causing the end of the rally and Championship hopes for Clive and Anton.
