A press release from the 'go-slow' charity Brake, is putting pressure on the UK government to make 20mph speed limits the national default for urban areas.
MINI has launched an aftermarket version of its popular Heads-up Display (HUD) found in Gen-3 MINIs. The video above shows the item placed upon the car's dashboard rather than integrated into it like Gen-3 factory models, but the desire to have the latest and coolest bit of MINI Kit is likely to be enough of a draw to make this successful. The HUD is a semi-transparent display of the car's movements and useful information, including direction, distance, arrival time, lane assist, traffic warnings, speed limits and safety cameras, as well as free map update once a year. The new product is available from MINI dealerships for around £500, with a fitting time of just one hour.
The Croydon Advertiser is reporting the theft of a 48-year old Riley Elf which was being used to help raise money at charity events. Owner Roger Gourd reported the classic motor missing from outside his home on Homefield Road, Old Coulsdon on Friday (25th September) at around 21:30. Mr Gourd has been using the car, amongst other classics to attend local charity events and help raise money through interest in his cars.
In fact, he was due to attend a MacMillan Cancer Support morning the very next day, and has already helped raise over £700k through his charitable work. "I'm still seething over it," said Mr Gourd. "I'm annoyed, why couldn't
they leave it alone? They can get another car, a modern car, leave my
car alone."
The car itself has been rebuilt over 25 years of ownership, with a new engine and nitrogen-filled tyres (with green tipped valves).
Car owners and urban residents across the world will be pleased to hear that Falken Tyres have created a new tyre manufacturing process which
reduces drive-by noise by up to ten decibels and cabin noise by four
decibels.
These two rounds were supposed
to be a Saturday one day event on the Silverstone National circuit.
Unfortunately MSVR got bumped by Silverstone so we ended up going to Donington for a two-day event. Luckily the GP circuit
would be in use, and this is so much better for photos than the National Circuit. Fogarty
Esses, Melbourne Hairpin and Goddards all come into play. Missing out the two-wheel Roberts Chicane.
As part of the trend of "today is National 'insert random topic here' Day", apparently, National Name Your Car Day is coming up soon. Tying into this phenomenon, MINI is offering 5000 official 'Named' certificates to a selection of owners who sign up and fill in their details on the site. We all know how much MINI owners love personalising their cars, and an official MINI certificate is one of those things, that you just can't buy (yet). Click the picture above to find out more.
love:mini hasn't commented on the recent diesel issue because the problem seems to lie solely with Volkswagon and its cars. However, the UK government has launched its own emissions enquiry - which bemuses us - and now MINI's parent company, BMW, who previously had no involvment in the scandal, has felt compelled to release a statement stating that their cars don't use trick emissions technology. All a bit pointless really. Anyway, here's what they said:
• Continuation of the generation change in the MINI
model family; new MINI Clubman as an innovative vehicle concept

everyday practicality and long-distance suitability offering driving
fun, premium charisma and individuality in MINI style.

National Mini Show Not so far back in time there was a little car called the Mini - not the big thing we see nowadays. Anyway, some people thought it would be a good idea to get all these Minis together in a field outside a big house and have a little party as such. This is the National Mini Show, held annually at Stanford Hall, Leicestershire
The Daily Express has reported the tragic incident of Kelly Jackson, 26, who managed to get into her MINI whilst sleepwalking and drive it off from her Birmingham home - still wearing her pyjamas. She didn't get far though, and just half a mile down the road she crashed into a tree, becoming trapped in the wreckage. Miss Jackson, who used to work as a Marketing Executive, had to have her leg amputated above the knee after the crash. She has no recollection of the event after also suffering some brain damage. “I have no memory of being in the car or the crash itself, I suspect I
will never really know what happened but one thing I do know is that I
am lucky to be alive.”
Kelly will be fundraising for Queen Elizabeth Hospital, disability
charity LimbPower and The Katie Piper Foundation, which helps those
living with scars and burns. To sponsor Kelly, visit www.justgiving.com/Kelly-Jackson18.

Light rain during the opening hour of this year’s International Autojumble didn’t in any way dampen the spirits of the thousands of motoring enthusiasts who had eagerly anticipated their annual pilgrimage to the motoring mecca that is Beaulieu. By Sunday, grey skies had given way to warm sunshine, the fields full to bursting with exhibitor stands and visitors contributed to make this year’s International Autojumble a blissful Beaulieu.
Mr Bean dusted off his green Mini and took out for a final spin yesterday to celebrate 25 years since Rowan Atkinson first dressed up as Mr Bean. Strapped atop of the Mini in the traditional living room chair, mop and rope, Bean wowed onlookers as he took to the Capital's streets.
Krzysztof Holowczyc is the ‘Baja Poland King’! He won his home event
for the fifth and arguably last time as he announced his retirement from
cross-country rallying, today. In his career, Holowczyc celebrated
numerous successes with the MINI ALL4 Racing, such as finishing third in
this year’s Dakar Rally, representing be best Dakar result of a Polish
competitor in the car category. Two years ago, he secured the FIA Cross
Country Rally World Cup title – and also did so at the wheel of a MINI
All4 Racing.
“After 10 intense years of cross-country rallying I opted for retiring
from the sport,” said Holowczyc. “In these years, I secured many good
and several excellent results and also had to cope with some setbacks. I
made it to the Dakar podium, I won the FIA World Cup and many rallies.
10 fantastic but also extremely tough years but they were worth the
effort.
Securing a podium in the Dakar was my goal from the very
beginning and this year, my dream came true. Therefore, it’s the
arguably best moment to go – you should retire at the top of your game. I
am not going to completely retire from rallying but I plan to only make
very sporadic appearances, in the future. I owe doing so my wife and my
family who supported me throughout my 30 years in motor racing. I want
to really thank Sven Quandt and X-raid, in this special moment. He
always believed in my skills and my talent. Without the enormous support
of the team I hadn’t been able to secure the Dakar podium. I will never
forget that they gave me a helping hand in the most difficult moment of
my career.”
Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mathieu Baumel finished second behind Holowcyz to
extend their lead in the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup standings..
On Saturday, he lost several minutes due to a damaged tyre. “I focused
on scoring World Cup points,” Al-Attiyah said later. Winning the World
Cup is far more important for me than securing the win in the Baja
Poland. In addition, Krzysztof was extremely fast, here.”
Meanwhile, Jakub ‘Kuba’ Przygonski made a great debut, both on four
wheels and as MINI ALL4 Racing driver. Together with his German
co-driver Andreas Schulz, he secured the very fine seventh place. In
four of the five special stages the young Pole made it to the top 10 and
only in the prologue he had to settle for finishing 13th. “For me,
everything was new, here,” admitted the young Pole.
Right behind his
compatriot, Adam Malysz and his French co-driver Xavier Panseri who also
resides in Poland came eighth. They lost time due to a damaged tyre on
Saturday and in the short Bajas, losing a couple of minutes makes a
particularly big impact. “We made mistakes again and again, revealed the
Pole, “But for me and Xavier, preparing for the Dakar represents the
No-1 priority.”
Meanwhile, Erik van Loon and Wouter Rosegaar, had to cope with a major
dose of bad luck: the two Dutchmen were hampered by several slow
punctures but succeeded in coming 12th, nevertheless – three positions
ahead of the German-Portuguese pairing Stephan Schott / Pedro Velosa who
finished 15th. “I’m very satisfied because of Krzysztof’s win in his last
cross-country race,” said X-raid Team Manager Sven Quandt. “He delivered
in great style. Just as it was the case in January when he secured
third place in the Dakar. We jointly celebrated quite a number of
successes and the entire team will miss him. Nasser’s performance also
was impressive. He didn’t take any unnecessary risks and succeeded in
extending his championship lead. Meanwhile, Kuba also drove a fine rally
and learned a lot.”
