Just a few weeks after the success in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the MINI ALL4 Racing once again delivered in outstanding style, with Nasser Al-Attiyah and Mathieu Baumel winning Qatar’s Sealine Cross Country Rally, in their X-raid built racer. Second place also was secured by a MINI ALL4 Racing pairing: the Russians Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov. Meanwhile, the Poles Adam Malysz / Rafal Marton contested their only second rally with the MINI ALL4 Racing and secured the fine sixth place.

The Birmingham Post has reported the passing away and funeral of John Sheppard, the last surviving member of the original Mini design team. He was 93.

The MINI ALL4 Racing was the car to beat at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2015. The competitors returned to Abu Dhabi City with four MINI in the lead. But at the car of Nasser Al-Attiyah, the Stewards measured that the suspension-travel was too big. This violation of the regulations was caused due to the strain of the whole suspension during the whole rally. Though the Stewards noticed that the offense was not done on purpose, they disqualified the MINI of the Qatari.

MINI is revealing the shape of things to come at the Auto Shanghai show with a pioneering innovation. “MINI Augmented Vision gives an insight into how intelligent connectivity between a MINI car and eyewear into which relevant content is projected might work in the future,” explains Dr. Jörg Preißinger, project-manager MINI Augmented Vision, BMW Group research and technology. “Working with several Qualcomm companies, we have created an interlinked system and augmented reality eyewear with a characteristic MINI design that revolutionise the experience both in and outside the vehicle. This prototype with its customised, interactive functions succeeds in fusing augmented reality with the brand’s trademark sense of lifestyle.”

BMW Group achieved a market share of 7.68 per cent of the total UK car market in March (BMW 5.46 per cent and MINI 2.22 per cent) bolstered by the introduction of the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Convertible, the BMW 4 Series Convertible and Gran Coupé, and MINI models including the MINI Hatch 3 and 5-door vehicles.
“BMW Group has had a great start to the year breaking records with both its BMW and MINI brands in the UK with sales of nearly 38,000 vehicles in March and 55,000 vehicles in the first quarter. We have seen strong sales growth driven by particularly high demand for new models launched in both the BMW 2 Series and 4 Series ranges,” said Graeme Grieve, Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group UK.
“The iconic MINI is also celebrating its highest ever monthly and quarterly sales result thanks to strong performances from the new 3 and 5-door Hatch models. We are attracting new customers to both brands with our exciting new model portfolio and we have also been working closely with our retailers to ensure our retail environment reflects changing consumer needs,” concluded Grieve.
BMW brand sales
Sales of BMW vehicles set a new record in the first quarter increasing by five per cent to a total of 40,024 vehicles representing 5.45 per cent of the total UK market. Demand for the BMW 2 and 4 Series ranges has been particularly strong and has accounted for over 8,700 customer deliveries. Demand for the BMW i3 and i8 models remains strong and sales have exceeded 1,000 vehicles in the first three months of the year.
MINI brand sales
MINI celebrated its highest ever monthly sales since its launch in 2001 capturing 2.2 per cent of the market with 10,962 models sold, an increase of 62 per cent compared to March 2014. The New MINI 3-Door Hatch continued to be the brand’s biggest seller. Alongside its all-new stablemate, the MINI 5-Door Hatch, nearly 15,000 were sold between January and March (3-Door Hatch: 6,454 and 5-Door Hatch: 3,524) an increase of 51 per cent up on the first quarter last year.

March 2015 is best car sales month since 1999
The 37th month of consecutive growth for the new car market shows the continuing demand for new products and new fuel-efficient and advanced technologies. The UK market surpassed pre-recession levels some seven months ago, helping bolster the economy and drive it out of recession. This growth, supported by domestic manufacturing, has attracted more than £14 billion of investment since 2011, creating almost 30,000 additional jobs.

BMW illegally voids warranty for using non-dealer parts/servicing
Following quickly on the heels of a similar US ruling, the
Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has successfully
challenged BMW after the car-making giant refused to honour the warranty
on a vehicle that was serviced and repaired outside of the BMW main
dealer network.
